Irish missionary killed in Kenya

December 14, 2009

An Irish missionary who has served in Kenya since 1968 was killed in his home in the southwestern Kericho region on the night of December 10-11. Churchgoers who were surprised when Father Jeremiah Roche did not appear for 6:00 a.m. Mass went to his home and found that he had been killed with a machete. “His untimely death is yet another terrible reminder of the threats faced daily by our missionaries and aid workers all over the world,” said Irish foreign affairs minister Micheál Martin.
