Abortions increase in France despite contraceptive successes

The number of unplanned pregnancies has decreased in France in the past 30 years, yet the number of abortions continues to rise, the National Institute of Demographic Studies has found. The percentage of pregnancies classified as unplanned fell from 46% to 33% between 1975 and 2004, but the rate of abortion for those pregnancies rose from 40% to 60%.
