Reported miracle could make Bl. Kateri the first Native American saint

The Vatican has received a dossier on a reported miracle that could lead to the canonization of Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha, the Canwest News Service reports. Msgr. Paul Lenz, an official involved in the cause for canonization of the Mohawk Indian woman, discloses that information about the reported miracle has been forwarded to the Vatican's Congregation for the Causes of Saints. Blessed Kateri-- the "Lily of the Mohawks," whose reputation for sanctity spread quickly across North American after she died in 1680 at the age of 24-- would qualify for canonization with the approval of a miracle, and could become the first Native American to attain that honor. She was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1980.
