Bishops of G8 nations urge common effort to protect poor from economic crisis

Leaders of the episcopal conferences of the G8 nations have joined in a statement urging world leaders to make special efforts to protect the world's poor from the effects of the global financial crisis. The bishops said that wealthy and powerful nations should make a "common effort" to continue support for the developing world, and should undertake action to curb climate change, which has an especially adverse impact on the poor, they said.
