Pro-life group vows investigation of Boston Catholic health agency

June 25, 2009

The American Life League has announced plans to investigate the possibility that a Boston Catholic health-care agency will provide abortion referrals under the terms of a state government contract. Caritas Christi, an agency composed of 6 Catholic hospitals in the Boston area, has entered into a partnership called CeltiCare to provide health coverage for low-income Massachusetts residents beginning on July 1; the state contract covering these services stipulates that abortion access must be provided. "Caritas Christi and the Archdiocese of Boston have given reassurances that no Catholic hospitals will make abortion referrals," said Shaun Kenney, the executive director of the American Life League. "After July 1, we will put that guarantee to the test."
