Board members of Boston Catholic health agency supported pro-abortion political candidates

June 17, 2009

The board of directors of Caritas Christi-- the Boston Catholic health-care agency involved in a controversial state program that mandates abortion coverage-- includes several individuals who have contributed heavily to political candidates who favor legal abortion. The Catholic Action League of Massachusetts, which has led opposition to the involvement of Caritas Christi in a new state health-insurance scheme, found that 5 of the 9 members of the group's board have contributed to pro-abortion candidates for public office, including President Barack Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Senators Ted Kennedy and John Kerry, and Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick. The contributions, the group said, provide "further compelling evidence of the indifference and infidelity to Catholic moral teaching which apparently permeates the leadership of Caritas Christi.”
