Italian bishops rally around Pope

Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, Archbishop of Genoa and president of the Italian Episcopal Conference (CEI), has come to Pope Benedict’s defense in the wake of recent media criticism of his remarks on condoms. “We will not accept the Pope being made the object of mockery and offence, in the media or elsewhere,” he said, citing “heavy criticism of our beloved Pope, which goes on longer than it should.”
