Stating that “the danger has not yet passed,” the head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church called for respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the nation.
“In some regions of Ukraine there are separatist calls to encroach on the territorial integrity of Ukraine,” said Major Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk, according to the Religious Information Service of Ukraine. “Europe must not isolate itself from these problems, because sooner or later they will affect every European.”
“We have received some warning signs from the Russian government, and we are wary,” he added; however, recent events offer “reason to hope that neither Russia nor any other country will … allow itself to encroach on the sovereignty of the Ukrainian state.”
