Australian university pressed to cancel lecture by global-warming skeptic
CWN - June 28, 2011
The University of Notre Dame in Freemantle, Australia, is under pressure to cancel a scheduled lecture by Lord Monckton, a global-warming skeptic.
An open letter, signed by a group of prominent scientists, argues that the university should "avoid promoting discredited views" on the subject of climate change.
"We all support academic freedom and the freedom to express our ideas and beliefs," the scientists say. Nevertheless they argue that Lord Monckton should not be grated a hearing because his argument "makes a mockery of academic standards and the pursuit of evidence-based knowledge."
