Irish bishops, government officials discuss Church handover of primary schools
November 12, 2009
Irish bishops and government education officials are meeting today to discuss the handover of some of the Church’s primary schools to the state education system. “Over the past 18 months, Archbishop of Dublin Diarmuid Martin has repeatedly signalled his willingness to let go of schools in areas where the Catholic Church is over-represented,” according to The Irish Times. The Church operates 92% of the nation’s primary schools.
