Uruguay set to become 1st Latin American nation to legalize gay adoption

Over the objections of the nation’s bishops, the lower house of Uruguay’s legislature approved the adoption of children by homosexual couples. If the bill passes in the nation’s senate-- where similar legislation has already been approved-- Uruguay will become the first Latin American nation to legalize such adoptions.

75% of the nation’s 3.3 million residents are Catholic.
