Missionary nun slain in South Sudan

June 01, 2016

A Slovak missionary nun was buried in Lutaya, South Sudan, on May 27, a week after she died of gunshot wounds.

Sister Veronika Theresia Racková, a medical doctor and member of the Missionary Congregation of the Servants of the Holy Spirit, was shot while taking an expectant mother to a hospital.

“The Christians are sad and sorry, but death is not the end of life, we say it’s the new beginning of a new life for Sister,” Father Zachariah Angutuwa Sebit, vicar general of the Diocese of Yei, told the Catholic Information Service for Africa, which reported that she was murdered by “suspected soldiers.”
