Sri Lankan president meets with Pontiff
December 14, 2015
Pope Francis met on December 14 with President Maithripala Sirisena of Sri Lanka.
A brief Vatican statement released after the meeting indicated that the conversation had centered on the efforts to promote peace and reconciliation in Sri Lanka after a long and bloody civil war. The Pope also spoke with the Sri Lankan leader about the results of the UN climate summit in Paris.
The “cordial” exchange also included a recollection of the visit by Pope Francis to Sri Lanka last January.
