Papua New Guinea: bishop laments torture of accused sorcerers

A Pittsburgh-born bishop who ministers in Papua New Guinea deplored the practice of torturing persons accused of sorcery.

“It is impossible to control people's beliefs, but one can control their actions,” said Bishop Donald Lippert, OFM Cap,, of Mendi, according to the Fides news agency. “Attacks on people suspected of practicing black magic will stop only when the authors are condemned.”
