Foundress of religious institute beatified in Canada

Sister Marie-Élisabeth Turgeon (1840-81), the foundress of the Sisters of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, was beatified in Quebec on April 26.

Cardinal Angelo Amato, the prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, presided at the Mass, which took place in a parish in Rimouski, her place of death.

Following his Regina Caeli address, Pope Francis referred to the beatification and called Sister Turgeon “an exemplary religious, devoted to prayer, teaching in small towns of her diocese, and to works of charity.”

“We thank the Lord for this woman, a model of life consecrated to God and generous commitment to the service of others,” he added.
