US bishops begin spring meeting

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops is holding its annual spring meeting in New Orleans from June 11 to 13.
Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia, president of the Pontifical Council for the Family, will join Archbishop Charles Chaput of Philadelphia in discussing the upcoming World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia. Other presentations will be devoted to the Extraordinary Synod of Bishops on the Family, Catholic Relief Services’ efforts to assist the victims of Typhoon Haiyan, clerical sexual abuse, the USCCB Subcommittee on the Catechism, and the USCCB Subcommittee on the Promotion and Defense of Marriage.
The bishops will also discuss two special topics: “Marriage and the Economy” and “The New Evangelization and Poverty.”
