Ignoring violence in Argentina is denial, bishop says
May 14, 2014
An Argentine bishop has said that those who do not recognize the problem of violence in the country are engaged in denial, the Fides news service reports.
Bishop Jorge Ruben Lugones of Lomas de Zamora was responding to media criticism of a statement released by the bishops of Argentina last week, focusing on violence and attributing the problem to political corruption and law-enforcement breakdowns.
“One who denies that we are sick of violence, I think, is looking the other way,” Bishop Lugones said. “I do not know if many of those who criticize today have ever walked through neighborhoods as we do.”
