One diocese sues another in unprecedented abuse case

The Diocese of New Ulm, Minnesota, is filing suit against the Diocese of Clogher, Ireland, charging that the Irish diocese did not warn American Church leaders about the abuse allegations lodged against a priest.
The New Ulm diocese says that it would not have allowed the late Father Francis Markey to engage in priestly ministry there if it had been notified of his past history. Father Markey, who died in 2012, was accepted by the New Ulm diocese in 1981.

Unseemly. But the abuse financial penalties in the US have surpassed $2,000,000,000.00 and someone's got to pay. The lawyers might be "sewer workers" in a sense- sadly one must go to where the work is, and for lawyers that's often unpleasant even if just treading water themselves- but more than a few who have worked in the setting of Catholic diocesan clerical abuse scandals have found themselves apalled despite their previous experiences with monsters. This conclusion is not easily put aside.

Many years ago the poverty of Ireland gifted us with heroic, wonderful priests -- the very ones that made our churches ring with those wonderful Irish accents. Now a bit of the new reality must set in. I welcome this purification. I even welcome the sewer workers (lawyers) who do it. The augian seminaries must be cleansed.

Wow! Now instead of the lawyers and victims eating the Church dioceses one at time or more than one, we now have our own eating our own. Wow, the devil must be doing a jig. No pun intended. The major problem for the Church and still exists is the homosexual priest population and seminary directors who allow or allowed them to proceed. Also a number of our bishops who continue to cover it up.

Oh, wow! If dioceses start down THIS road, we are in for many, many lawsuits. But it is an excellent way to pass the buck, and this time -- save those bucks that will be stopped by lawyers in the form of fees, naturally -- some of the bucks at least will go back into coffers maintained by the faithful. What a spectacle our bishops are giving the world!
