Vatican warns against ticket-scalping for papal audiences, beatifications

October 14, 2013

In a pre-emptive step to discourage fraudulent sales of “tickets” to papal audiences and ceremonies, the Vatican has announced that all such events are free to the public, and tickets are not required.

The October 12 announcement from the Vatican press office specifically mentions that the canonization ceremonies next April 27 for Popes John XXIII and John Paul II will not require tickets, and will be “entirely free,” like other papal ceremonies.

Therefore, the Vatican announcement notes, “the faithful are warned against ticket touts or requests for money by agencies or tour operators in order to obtain tickets.”
