Pakistan recognizes Easter as holiday for Christians

March 18, 2016

Pakistan's national assembly has approved a resolution recognizing Easter as a holiday for Christians, and Holi and Diwali as holidays for Hindus, the AsiaNews service reports.

The resolution, introduced by a Hindu legislator, is a significant gesture toward religious minorities in the overwhelmingly Muslim country. But Christian leaders suggested that a more urgent priority is the protection of the rights of religious minorities.
