Florida priest who stole parish funds released from prison, receives warm welcome
CWN - April 26, 2010
A year after he pled guilty to grand theft, Father John Skehan, an 83-year-old priest of the Diocese of Palm Beach, has been released and welcomed home by a supportive group of his one-time parishioners. “So many of the clergy are stepping up in his support,” says the parishioner who picked him up from prison.
Prosecutors alleged that he and the priest who succeeded him as pastor embezzled up to $8.5 million in parish funds. The diocese has suspended him from public ministry.
