POST LITTERAS APOSTOLICAS

Notification of the Sacred Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith modifying the Church's concept of forbidden books. This document places the responsibility for avoiding such literature as would endanger the faith and morals on the conscience of each Christian, and on the directives of bishops. But the former ecclesiastical law, concretized in the Index of Forbidden Books and in the corresponding censures, was abolished (June 14, 1966).
