Obama won't press churches to accept same-sex marriage... yet

By Phil Lawler ( bio - articles - email ) | Jun 26, 2013

President Obama promises that he won’t try to force churches to solemnize same-sex marriages. That’s what he says now, in 2013. How long do you suppose he’ll hold to that promise?

In 2008, as a presidential candidate, he said that he couldn’t support legal recognition of same-sex marriage. Now he fully supports it, describes opposition (that is, his own former position) as “discrimination enshrined in law,” and welcomes a Supreme Court decision that “righted that wrong.”

So again, how long do you expect Obama to wait before applying pressure to the churches? Which way is the wind blowing?

This administration is morally bankrupt, it lies and spies on its people - of course we believe you.

"President Obama promises that he won’t try to force churches to solemnize same-sex marriages." Maybe he will, and maybe he won't. That is not the point. Four years from now, Obama will not be the president of the United States, and his 'promise' will no longer be binding (if it ever was). His successor could be another Democrat, and one whose domestic policy is even more extreme than that of Obama. In that case, the observance of ceremonies for gay duos in Catholic churches will be forced

What does it say about a nation that it twice elected such a transparently duplicitous politician? What does it further say about America and its current state of intellectual impoverishment that there is very little criticism of this four-flushing phony's frequent reversals of opinion (e.g. concerning sodomic playing-house arrangements, Guantanamo, violations of privacy for "national security" reasons, etc.)?

How long? About the same length of time it took him to break the promise about keeping your old health insurance and that rates would not rise.
