Obama's latest 'compromise' offer on the mandate is a Trojan Horse
By Phil Lawler ( bio - articles - email ) | Feb 01, 2013
Last July I predicted that President Obama would offer a new “compromise” to soften Catholic opposition to the HHS mandate. My timing was wrong; I thought it would be a pre-election promise, a campaign ploy. But I think my analysis was fundamentally right.
Bottom line: Obama’s ultimate goal is not to preserve religious freedom, nor even to satisfy the concerns of conscientious Catholics. His ultimate goal is to divide the Catholic Church.

It is a perverted political concept, unworthy of a priest, to blame the criminal gun violence in the south side of Chicago on the Constitutional right to carry firearms for the defense of one's life, family and property.

The leftist, Fr Phleger, deserves protection by firearm because he is a very special person, unlike the rest of us. He is up there, we are down here where personal protection is prohibited. We are, after all, expendable.

Frodo hit the nail on the head. Obama is taking advantage of an already existent division within the church. The term American Catholic versus Roman Catholic comes to mind. Pray with fervor for the American church!!

Phil, Obama is not dividing the Catholic Church. It has done that all by itself on contraception (something like 90/10). Obama is just smartly taking advantage of that division for his own political purposes. Don't blame him for the division, that onus rests on those who have ignored or rejected Humanae Vitae for 44 years.
