India: bishop denounces sex-selective abortions

An Indian diocese is working to counter the increasing prevalence of sex-selective abortions. 914 girls are born in India for every 1,000 boys, according to a recent census report.
“Can we afford to be silent spectators and not do anything about these missing women?” said Bishop Ignatius Menezes of Ajmer, a city of 485,000 in northwestern India.
