Mary no longer among top 100 girls’ names

Mary-- which was among the two most popular girls’ baby names from 1910 to 1965-- fell to 102nd in popularity in 2009, according to the Social Security Administration. Joseph remains a popular boys’ name, ranking 16th.

    And I'd bet that the naming patterns of Catholic parents are little different from these overall figures for American society. If so, it'll just represent another episode in the destruction of Catholic identity. But why worry? The spirit of Vatican II required us to become just like the secular world, didn't it?

    Interesting how the name "Mary" dropped in favor right after Vatican II. Mary is figuratively our Holy Mother the Church. Is it just a coincidence that as devotion to Mary dropped, so did the respect and loyalty for the Church?
