Vatican turning to solar energy
CWN - December 06, 2010
The hall in which Pope Benedict frequently offers his weekly audiences is now powered by solar energy, Cardinal Giovanni Lajolo, president of the Governatorate of Vatican City State, announced at a recent press conference. Two German companies donated $1.6 million for the purchase and installation of 2,400 photovoltaic panels.
Papal audiences are held in the Paul VI auditorium when the weather weighs against an outdoor audience in St. Peter's Square.
