Lull in Orissa violence follows media spotlight, new police chief

The appointment of a new state police chief in Orissa, the national media spotlight on the August 25 rape of a nun, and national government pressure upon the state to act have all contributed to a lull in anti-Christian violence in Orissa since October 3, according to Church sources. Montfort Brother Thomas Thannickal told UCA News that all Christians in the Kandhamal district have been driven away from their homes and are living in the forests or relief camps.
