Disgraced 'Father Oprah' ordained in Episcopal Church

June 01, 2010

Alberto Cutié, the Miami archdiocesan priest whose Catholic media outreach ended with the publication of compromising photographs with a woman who is now his wife, was ordained in the Episcopal Church on May 29. “As an Episcopalian, he's speaking freely about his support of openly gay clergy, of birth control, and, when a woman's life is in danger, even abortion,” the Miami Herald reported.

The really sad thing to American bishops is that for every priest who must go (as Cutie had to), or leaves on his own, and then goes "open" about their opposition to Catholic teaching on homosexuality, chastity, birth control, abortion, and divorce -- there's a 100 still around who maintain these views secretly and undermine Catholic teaching on them. The disincentive to stop living the lie is it means one gives up the comfort, security, and lifestyle a Catholic parish priest.

Alberto Cutie, like a lot of former Catholic priests, has joined one of the versions of Anglicanism because he wanted to commit matrimony. It is not for serious doctrinal and conscientious reasons, for the "truth" claims of Anglicanism, that such transitions occur. Hardly complementary to the Episcopal Church. So Cutie now has liberal views on a range of moral questions. But what are his real views on ecclesiology, mariology, Christology, and the priesthood?

He joins a long line of marginal people who call themselves Episcopals McGreevy, Robinson, etc.

Gaby, I agree totally! This is called "truth in labelling." So many heterodox nuns and priests should just do the right thing and leave the Church that they have been working to subvert from within for decades now. But, they won't leave behind their gravy trains! They don't have the guts to do it.

If only ALL Catholic priests who oppose Church teachings would simply make the switch, we'd have a lot less confusion, scandal & self-serving sources of quotes for the media from liberal darlings wearing collars.
