Cardinal Fernandez appointed to canonical dicastery

CWN Editor's Note: Pope Francis has named Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández, the prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, as a member of the Dicastery for Legislative Texts, the Vatican office in charge of canon law.

The appointment is noteworthy, The Pillar observes, because when he appointed Cardinal Fernandez to head the doctrinal dicastery, he instructed the Argentine prelate to leave that dicastery’s division for canonical crimes in the hands of “competent professionals” in light of the fact that Cardinal Fernandez is not an expert on canon law.

The Pope also names Cardinal Lazzaro You Heung-sik, the prefect of the Dicastery for the Clergy, as a member of the Dicastery for Legislative Texts. Cardinal You is also not trained in canon law.

Like other Francis appointments, this one is inane. I guess we need to turn to the "god of Surprises" or the "god of Contradictions" to understand the doublespeak that appears on the surface as confusion.
