December 16, 2009
Father Alvino Broering, who was brutally stabbed to death on December 14, has become the latest victim of a rash of violence against priests in Brazil. A priest of the southern Archdiocese of Florianopolis, Father Broering, 46, served as university chaplain and pastor of the cathedral parish.
Father Broering had been giving a ride to an unidentified person at dawn. After the priest parked and got out of his car, the person chased him, stabbed him to death, and stole his car.
