New York Times offers rare portrait of pro-life activists

October 12, 2009

On Saturday, October 10, the New York Times gave front-page attention-- and still more remarkable, generally fair treatment-- to pro-life activists, in a rare departure from the usual blackout on such coverage in the mainstream American media. Appearing "above the fold" on page 1, the Times story sketched, among others, Chet Gallagher, the former Las Vegas police officer who joined pro-life activists when he saw a blockade at an abortion clinic. He recalls thinking: "It wasn't civil disobedience; it was biblical obedience."

Following up on this stunning departure from usual coverage, the Times included controversial photos of fetal remains in its online photographic section.
