Swiss bishops oppose ballot initiative to ban minarets

The bishops of Switzerland have announced their opposition to a November ballot initiative that would ban the construction of minarets. “Our request for the initiative to be rejected is based on our Christian values and the democratic principles in our country,” they said in a statement.

The nation of 7.5 million is 44% Catholic and 4% Muslim.
