170-year-old parish to become opera house August 28, 2009
The Diocese of Albany in upstate New York has sold a parish founded in 1839 to the Schenectady Light Opera Company. The parish is one of 33 worship sites closed by Bishop Howard Hubbard earlier this year.
Bishop Hubbard, who was 38 when he was appointed diocesan bishop in 1977, had previously closed 36 parishes before the latest round of parish closings was announced.
