Pope plans trip to Turin for exposition of Shroud in 2010

July 28, 2009

Pope Benedict XVI will attend the exposition of the Shroud of Turin in that city's cathedral early next year, according to the papal spokesman, Father Federico Lombardi. The date of the papal trip has not yet been set, he said.

In June 2008, when he announced that the Shroud of Turin would be exposed for public veneration in the spring of 2010-- for the first time since the Jubilee Year 2000-- the Pontiff told a group of pilgrims from Turin that he hoped to attend the exposition "if the Lord gives me life and health."
