Islamic radicals target Christians in Democratic Republic of Congo

August 19, 2016

Islamic radicals have stepped up their attacks on Christian villages in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The Islamic Allied Democratic Forces, having failed in an effort to oust the government of neighboring Uganda, have concentrated their forces on the northeast DRC, driving hundreds of residents from their homes. The UN estimates that over 600 people have been killed in the region in the past two years; an observer for Open Doors International reported that "villages have been obliterated and hardly any civilian life is left."

In the most recent raid, last week, the Islamic group killed at least 36 people, and perhaps as many as 50, in a brutal massacre in North Kivu.
