Plans for canonization of Mother Teresa include new Vatican stamp, catechesis by Pope

August 08, 2016

The Vatican will release a new postage stamp, and Pope Francis will offer a special catechetical session for volunteer workers, as part of the September celebration of the canonization of Mother Teresa of Calcutta.

Pope Francis will preside at the canonization ceremony on September 4. The previous day, he will give a catechesis for volunteers, as part of the Jubilee Year of Mercy. In the evening of September 3, a musical meditation in the basilica of St. Andrea della Valle will be followed by veneration of the new saint's relics.

The Vatican philatelic office has announced that a new 95¢ stamp, featuring the image of Mother Teresa, will be offered for sale on September 2. The design for the stamp includes a background image of Mother Teresa holding the hand of a young child.
