Jesuit college students protest commencement address by Cardinal Dolan

May 11, 2015

More than 600 students at Le Moyne College, a Jesuit institution in upstate New York, have signed a statement protesting the appearance of Cardinal Timothy Dolan as commencement speaker.

The online statement urged college officials to rescind their invitation to Cardinal Dolan, accusing him of “homophobic” statements. The 600 signatures represented a substantial portion of Le Moyne College’s 2,800 undergraduate students.

Linda LeMura, the president of Le Moyne, said that she was proud of the students for their support “for members of society that are historically marginalized.” Far from criticizing the online petition, she said, “I see it as a great call for celebration.”

Well, that's tolerance for you. I'm still waiting for the Cardinal to lead a Eucharistic Procession down 5th Avenue in NYC in reparations for the St. Patrick's Day disgrace. Waiting. Still waiting.

This is the kind of situation that gives Jesuit institutions a bad name. It's the president's remarks that are the most senseless.

It is obvious that the college has provided poor instruction to its' students, as well as little regard for Church teaching....Please recall the scripture stating that those instructing wrongly on the faith will be held accountable to a higher degree for their leading astray of yet formed minds.....SHAME on the college
