Philippine bishops call for land reform

81 Philippine bishops have signed a statement calling for the passage of two bills that would extend 1988 agrarian-reform legislation.
An estimated 50,000 farmers stand to become landowners if the bills are passed, according to the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
