Pope prays for human trafficking victims

February 09, 2015

At the conclusion of his February 8 Angelus address, Pope Francis prayed for victims of human trafficking.

February 8, the feast of St. Josephine Bakhita, was the first international day of prayer for victims of human trafficking.

The Pope called for prayer and assistance for “the many men, women, and children who are enslaved, exploited, abused as instruments of labor or of pleasure, who are often tortured and mutilated.”

He also called upon governments to “remove the causes of this shameful wound” and called upon all to speak out on behalf of “our brothers and sisters, humiliated in their dignity.”
