The December 3 edition of L’Osservatore Romano drew attention to the work of Archbishop William Goh of Singapore, who has opened a theological institute and emphasized evangelization since his installation in February 2013.
The new evangelization “is critical if the Church is to arrest the disturbing trends in the world caused by secularization and relativism,” he wrote in a recent pastoral letter. “These have resulted not only in the loss of the sacred and amorality but consumerism and materialism as well.”
“The work of the new evangelization cannot be conceived without turning to Mary, the Star of the New Evangelization, for inspiration and prayer because it is through Mary that God rebuilt the House of David,” he added as he announced the consecration of Singapore’s sole diocese to Mary, Star of the New Evangelization.
The Southeast Asian nation of 5.5 million is 5% Catholic.
