Reports from Pakistan: Christian tortured to death by police; woman miscarries after attack
November 26, 2014
A Christian man was tortured to death while in Pakistani police custody on November 22, according to his family.
The Express Tribune, a Pakistani daily, reported that Rakha Shahzad, 35, was taken into police custody because he sold alcohol and drugs. Father Francis Nadeem, Pakistan’s Capuchin Franciscan provincial, described Shahzad’s death as the “umpteenth extrajudicial killing,” according to the Fides news agency.
In a separate incident, a Christian woman in the Punjab province reported that she had miscarried after she was attacked, stripped of her clothes, and left naked on the street because her employer found her work unsatisfactory. The victim complained that police have not taken action against her assailants.
