Pope urges common Christian witness to oppose secularism, indifference
November 07, 2014
Pope Francis spoke of the need for “clear testimony of unity between Christians” in a November 7 address to participants in an ecumenical conference organized by the Focolare movement.
The Pope said that Christians should work together to transform society, “responding to the globalization of indifference with a globalization of solidarity and fraternity.” He listed a number of public problems that call for a unified Christian response, including “the lack of freedom to publicly express one's religion and to live openly in accordance with Christian ethics; the persecution of Christians and other minorities; the sad phenomenon of terrorism; the refugee crisis caused by wars and other reasons; the challenge of fundamentalism and, at the other extreme, exasperated secularism.”
