Oppose family detention, urges US bishops’ immigration initiative
October 15, 2014
Justice for Immigrants, an initiative of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, is urging Catholics to contact President Barack Obama and members of Congress in opposition to family detention centers.
In recent months, the Obama administration has placed over 1,000 women and children who have crossed the United States’ southern border in two detention centers, according to NBC.
“As a Catholic, I am opposed to the use of family detention,” reads the suggested language of a letter to President Obama. “Detaining women and children who are fleeing persecution and violence demeans the God-given human dignity of these vulnerable people … Alternatives to detention, like community-based models and case management, are effective at ensuring compliance with immigration court proceedings.”

Wow! Now the USCCB is against the detention centers for illegal immigrants. They are strongly to blame for this situation for their continued support of illegal immigration. Some of these center are a vacation paradise. Easy to solve the problem if they do not like the situation and that is to send them back.

The language of this proposed message is deceptive, as anyone who lives near the southern border knows. Most of these "refugees" are in fact just folks looking for better working conditions in a country where they have never paid taxes. Many of the "children" are in fact teens nearing adulthood. And the USCCB conveniently forgets that this is not a matter of few individual illegals, but rather a wholesale invasion by millions. I will write Obama telling him to tighten our swiss-cheese borders.
