Ukraine: pro-Russian separatists occupy monastery
August 20, 2014
Pro-Russian separatists in Donetsk, Ukraine’s 5th-largest city, have seized the monastery of the Congregation of the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate, according to a report from the Religious Information Service of Ukraine.
Donetsk is located in eastern Ukraine, close to Russia.
Fearing for the sisters’ safety, the local Ukrainian Greek Catholic bishop had earlier asked the sisters to leave the monastery and serve in western Ukraine, according to the report.
