Pope recalls helping other priests hear confessions at shrine

July 25, 2014

In a message commemorating the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Shrine to St. Pantaleon in Buenos Aires, Pope Francis said he wished to be “close to you to be able to relive in some way the occasions in which I was able to visit the shrine on 27 July [the saint’s feast day] to help the priests in confession.”

The Pontiff recalled “the many faithful who have come to venerate the saint, to implore for health, and to profess their faith,” and said that after a visit, “I returned home spiritually strengthened by this witness of faith. The good I received is unimaginable.”
