Pope’s Twitter account has 10 million followers

October 29, 2013

The Pope’s Twitter account gained its ten millionth follower at 9:32 PM on October 26, according to L’Osservatore Romano.

The account has steadily been gaining a million followers per month since last December, the newspaper reported, with the Pope’s words being tweeted in nine languages, including Spanish, English, and Latin.

“Numbers are not everything,” said Msgr. Paul Tighe, secretary of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications. “The Pontifical Council would like to thank all users of social media – believing users and non-believing users – who have helped us to bring to the attention of an extremely wide public the words of the Pope, and, above all, the message of the Gospel of which he is spokesman.”
