Nicaragua: bishop brokering deal between foreign company, disgruntled workers

October 21, 2013

A Nicaraguan bishop is attempting to negotiate an agreement between a Canadian mining company and workers who assert they have not been compensated adequately, the Fides news service reported.

The protesting workers have blocked the road to Santo Domingo, a town in south-central Nicaragua.

“We are managing to clarify and communicate, and thus reach an agreement and put an end to the conflict,” said Bishop René Sándigo Jirón of Juigalpa.
