Kansas City diocese settles child-porn lawsuit claims for $600,000
May 16, 2013
The Diocese of Kansas City, Missouri, has agreed to pay $600,000 to settle a lawsuit stemming from child-pornography charges against a priest of the diocese.
The family of a young girl whose photo was found on the computer of Father Shawn Ratigan had brought suit against the priest, the diocese, and Bishop Robert Finn. The financial settlement will end the case against the diocese and the bishop; the charge against Ratigan remains.
Earlier this week a Missouri judge had ruled that the plaintiff could not introduce evidence intended to show the culpability of the diocese in the case.
