Ex-nun, aspiring to priesthood, claims she will lead a reformed Church

October 26, 2012

Carl Olson of Catholic World Report remarks on the astonishing arrogance of a former nun who announces: "So I've said I'm not leaving Catholicism, I'm just going to lead it in a different direction."

Diane Dougherty has announced her decision to become a priest, insisting that she will lead a reform of the Catholic Church--although she rejects the legitimacy of the Church she proposes to lead. Olson is also struck by the willingness of secular reporters to take her claims seriously.

Flaky nuns I have endured since seventh grade, but I'm more concerned about Archbishop Gregory's remarks. Sister Dougherty and her allies in the Metropolitan Community Church have reformed themselves out of the Church. Fair enough. Now somebody please catechise Archbishop Gregory.
